Green = VISITS to my blog
Purple = PAGE VIEWS, i.e. visits to my blog + jumps to other links from here
If you visit my blog, the green and purple both go up a notch. If you click on the link to Odin Teatret, the purple goes up an extra notch. So green measures visitors, and purple measures how many links they click. If I do a post with lots of links in it, the purple jumps that day. My post about the patron saint of actors, for example, made a bunch of people jump over to check out other patron saints.
Readership gradually climbs each week, but the pattern stays the same -- peaks on Wednesdays, falls off on Saturday & Sundays.

These stats are from sitemeter.com. It's free for the basic stats, which include everything you've seen here. Or you can pay and get more. I paid, but found I don't use the additional info, which is geared for people who are selling something, and is all about which sites & engines generate the most traffic.
But knowing there were 22 visitors today, and seeing the timezones and weekly visits change -- I love that.
